Learning How To Podcast
“Podcast” is one of the many words which have become quite popular lately. Actually, if you do not know what it means, you are quite likely not to feel convenient in Internet or high-tech related conversations. Basically, podcast is what lets all the people have access to audio and/or video files via devices such as IPod, mp3 and mp4 for example. Trying to make a comparison between podcasting and reading a newspaper/magazine or watching TV is quite stupid because they have nothing to do with each other. The main difference is that the podcasting gives everyone access to downloadable files even if it is the middle of a business day: all you need to have if you want to these files to be accessible is a personal computer or any other device supporting video files.
Podcasting also gives an individual the chance to easily communicate with the world his or her thoughts and ideas. If you don’t own an iPod or a portable device that supports this, you can even access podcasts through your computer. Most people may be under the false impression that they can be accesses only through iPods as it sounds so. It is also important to note that the one broadcasting the podcast need not own one either.
If you want to download the podcasts, the only thing that you need is software, and the most suitable one for this purpose is the iTunes. You can download this software freely from the website of Apples. Before downloading you need to do some things: first, subscribe the podcasts, then- create an account for the particular one, and also update it. When you are done with this tasks you can start downloading and have fun, and of course you learn a lot from the information that you find so this is quite educational. And the best thing about the technical side is that all the updates are automatically and regularly loaded, so you do not need to worry about it.
But the software whose name is “podcatcher” is also worth being mention. This software’s purpose is to check for any updates concerning the podcasts. But let’s get back to the meaning of the word “podcast”. There used to be a strong wave against the term and it was considered to be responsible for the confusion amongst all people thinking that podcasts are only accessible via IPod. This is the reason why it was decided another term to be used: it is “netcast”. And risking repeating myself, I will remind you that you can download a lot of quality stuff thanks to this feature: music, sports, radio and many others.
But the truth is that the podcasts are by far not used only for entertainment. For example, it could be used for educational purposes by everyone. But let’s not neglect the fact that podcasts are also used for broadcasting talks and sermons (of religious groups for instance), for giving tutorials and HOW-TOs. All these facts serve to show just one thing: the podcasts are the cheapest and easiest way to entertain or even educate yourself, without being annoyed by commercial breaks all the time.
